There are 3 steps to Hydrate the Coir as listed below.


Step 1: Unwrap Coir Block

  • Unwrap the coir block from the packaging.
  • Place the coir block in a large container like a wheelbarrow. A large container is needed to hold about 18 to 20 gallons i.e., about 2.5 cubic feet of premium expanded coir.

Step 2: Hydrate and Expand the Coir Block

  • Gradually add water on the top and sides of the coir block. The coir block will absorb the water and slowly start to expand.
  • As the coir expands, use a small garden tool to move the loosened coir from the top and sides of the coir block.
  • Continue to add water on the coir. Add about 5 gallons of water on the coir for it to fully expand.

Step 3: Fluff-up the loose coir

  • Add more water, as needed, on top of any chunks of coir.
  • Continue to fluff-up the coir.
  • Drain any excess water.
  • Coir is ready for use.
